Official GATE Score Equation (Out of 1000)

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering converts candidate raw marks $M$ into a standardized score $S$ using the following piecewise linear transformation:

Score = S_q + (S_t - S_q) * [(M - M_q) / (M_t - M_q)]

$M$: Marks obtained by candidate (raw marks)

$M_q$: Qualifying marks for General category (e.g. 25-32 marks)

$M_t$: Mean marks of top 0.1% or top 10 candidates

$S_q = 350$: Standard score assigned to $M_q$

1/3 negative marking for 1-mark questions (-0.33); 2/3 negative marking for 2-mark questions (-0.67).

MSQ (No Negative)

Multiple Select Questions

Zero partial marking: marks awarded ONLY if all correct choices and no wrong choices are selected.

NAT (No Negative)

Numerical Answer Type

Zero negative deduction for wrong numerical entries. Evaluated within the commission's tolerance interval.
